33. CHRISTIE CRAMER

Christie loves to use bold, vibrant, translucent colours which set her work apart. Subjects while still recognizable, become abstracted versions of themselves, often the imperfections in nature are what make a subject interesting to her and this is reflected in her work.

Since beginning to paint full time in 2014 Christie has been involved in many group and solo exhibitions, she is also a regular exhibitor at the Garden and Art Festival. Christie is happy to create commissioned pieces, working with the buyers to come up with a personalized painting to suit their requirements.

34. DEB CLARKE

Deb Clarke is a passionate contemporary watercolour artist.
Her favourite subjects are large florals which she loves to paint ‘up close and personal’, representing the heart of each bloom in vibrant transparent colours or moody subtle shades depending on the subject.
Birds and wildlife also feature in many of her paintings. Deb loves to capture the essence of a flower or the character of a bird or creature by enhancing their colours, depicting the sun on a petal or a glint in the eye of a cheeky tui.
She has pursued an online training process, with tutors and art mentors around the globe. She paints in her home studio overlooking the Tauranga harbour.

35. DOREEN McNEILL

Born in England Doreen trained as a draughtsman, hand drawing navigational charts for aircraft. She loved this work which also gave her a chance to travel.
Whilst she wanted to create using paint, it was not until she moved to the Bahamas in 1965 that she was introduced to acrylic paints.
Moving to New Zealand in 1987 she studied at WSA, gaining a deeper understanding in abstract art.
Since then she has spent many happy hours “playing” and experimenting with paint. Firmly believing that the process is more important than the result and every painting should be an adventure.

38. JO TRICKER GLASS

"Jo is fascinated by glass - by its ability to transform itself from a solid to a liquid and back to a solid again!   For her it is the endless fascination of where science and art meet."

Jo's works are handmade from glass using kiln and torch techniques. Her medical laboratory background directly influences her artistic processes as does her love of colour, pattern and different world cultures. She is also inspired by English literature, family history, and the joy of dance.

Whilst glass is highly fascinating - it is also a hugely challenging medium that can have a high percentage of failures. And yet ironically, it is this challenge that keeps Jo coming back again - for it is never boring! Jo loves her job! And she is passionate about what she does!

Fusing slices of glass sheet into different patterns and designs; cutting and re-fusing; the subtle shift from the natural shininess to the more muted sandblasted tone - the possibilities are staggering and endless!

A glass artist is also a scientist. Understanding how glass reacts with other glass, to heat and to gravity is an integral part of a work of glass art and takes years to perfect. Her passion for perfection has led to selection in many exhibitions and New Zealand art awards.

Vicki is a self-taught artist who works with oils in a painterly way. Using thick, flat brushes to create juicy brushstrokes.  Areas of flat colour give her paintings a modern, minimal feel while still portraying a recognisable subject in a creative way.

Living in Tauranga, with her husband and five children, she is surrounded by inspiration and paints in her light-filled studio in her home.
